The ones I use most often are the Typewriter, the Text Box, and the Callout. The comments menu gives you a wide range of tools you can use to write on a PDF file. Sometimes the Properties toolbar seems to disappear, so you may need to add it again sometime. So pull down the view menu and check them both. It is also useful to add the Properties Toolbar to the menu as well. The default view does not show a Comments toolbar, so you'll want to pull down the View Menu and check that.
